Comprehensive Musicianship through Performance
Seventh and eighth grade middle school orchestra students select (make musical decisions, choose works of visual art and videos) create (group composition and improvisation), describe (discuss and identify moods/emotions, use illustrations to represent moods/emotions) which contribute to their musical comprehension, understanding and growth. Poetry, narrative writing, visual art, and short films are either created or chosen by students to develop an interdisciplinary approach for understanding expressive elements of the piece, Deep Sea Fandango. Various learning activities designed to foster skill, cognition, or affective outcomes create a comprehensive and in-depth approach to understanding musical expression.
